Take a look at this video, starting at 1:38 on the time bar. This is not an X5 but still applies. You can open your sunroof, get up on a stool and look for any standing water. You can also slowly pour water in the sunroof channel and see if it drains quickly, slowly or not at all. I think there are either three or four drain holes/tubes but it looks like you are looking for the one on the passenger front but check both front ones while you are at it.
