You can see this in the tach/energy display in hybrid mode. If the needle is in a blue range, you're on EV power. If the lower-end blue range goes away, and all you see is white power range, you're on ICE power. This is very noticeable, for example, when you go over the speed limit for ICE (68mph), even if you don't feel the ICE engage (I usually can, but it's subtle).
