Agreed, if no one said anything and the person is actively searching anyway… it only stands to hurt him to bring it up.
The more time passes the further away it gets and the less likely he will reap any benefit from reminding anyone of it.
I agree with your assessment of the current culture also. Morality is not rewarded in the majority of situations, it’s frequently punished.
