My 2020 X5 M50i is having the leather lift off the dash where the dash meets the front windshield. Talked to a local upholstery shop and they said it can’t really be repaired. Needs a replacement. Called my dealer and they want an eye watering 5k for the part and that doesn’t include labor. Car is out of warranty.

Anyone have some creative ideas? I was even thinking of getting some black flex tape and putting it over the area. I don’t want it to look too horrible but I want it to stop from coming apart more.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks in advance
I wish I could help, that's quite awful on a luxo car. When you approached the dealer, how far out of warranty was your car? I'm thinking that if you are not far out of warranty and since, I think, that issue is very uncommon, you could make a plea to BMW NA to fix it. Not just an ordinary plea but a monster plea, I mean that is just not a normal issue. Maybe they pay the whole price or half the price or possibly agree on a good trade in deal....dunno till you try. I'd certainly be making a lot of noise about it. Its a 2020, you can't be far out of warranty when you first reported it.
IMHO, anything you do to try and fix it yourself or cover it up will look bad. It needs a dash replacement which is a huge job, hence the high price.
