Excuse me, but Apple wasn't caught making the battery life worse, on the contrary.

It was making the processor work less in order to preserve battery and ensure the phone wouldn't shut down unexpectedly.

Some argued that was intentionally slowing down performance to make you buy a new phone.
Being a victim of bad batteries and unexpected situations shutdowns, I kinda sided with Apple's decision there... later, after the fiasco, iOS was enhanced with a feature to choose between one or the other.

Batteries degrade over time.
Doesn't Android show you the health of the battery? It just may need to be replaced for you to get regular life... I replaced the battery on my iPhone 7 2 months ago, after 1 1/2 years. Much better life now.

Edit: a tip for your battery to last longer is to not leave it charging over night. Try to keep it around 80% and charge a little over time throughout the day to keep it above 50% and under 100%.
I've been doing that.
