The service dept charged @$200 for updating the software. This was not paid by me, but I was told they generally only do it for free if there is a recall. I explained there are so many bugs...but just wondered what others are finding.

Because OTA updates only upgrades certain modules in the car. To do a full software upgrade will continue to require a visit to dealer and an ISTA programming session.
