This has come up before in the forum. In addition to what has been mentioned, there are also some cars at the factory that are randomly selected for further quality testing and may have extra miles from that. Rest assured, its not from a 10 mile joyride.

Any car not ordered or sold on a dealer lot is fair game for a test drive. But really its a moot point, any car that has not been titled before qualifies as "new" regardless of mileage. So the manager's demo car, the test drive car, or a car in the loaner fleet can be sold as a "new" car. In some cases the factory warranty may have already started because of a mileage threshold that has been crossed. Despite the mileage or warranty status on those cars the advantages is that they qualify for new car incentives and discounts, but unfortunately it doesn't mean you are going to get a significantly better price because of the mileage on them.
