Unfortunately, I'd also already spent $80 on the UniCarScan but it's worth it to have AS/S turned off. It hasn't arrived, so I don't know if it's better than the VGate, but at the VGate works if anyone has it.
One note, I did get a Chassis Stabilization error as it was coding, which freaked me out. It went away and seems to be a common after effect of the coding process (he has a note in the FAQ about errors).
So, this is all to say, if it hasn't already been updated, it looks like Bimmercode soon will be updated to be able to handle AS/S on the G05 with the VGate adapter.
