My M50d has something like this on each side. It amplifies the natural exhaust sounds. In my opinion, it sounds really good and throaty. Makes the car sound very powerful. Not fake. Very well tuned to the active sound design and it sounds the same outside as it does on the inside.
I'm very happy with it.
