I had ~5200 miles when I changed my front and rear pads. Everyone is making such a big deal out of this. It took me 1.5-2 hours. I read the service manual, even when at the dealer, they don't use any software to retract the pistons. I just used a good old fashioned C clamp.
Out of an abundance of caution, I did activate the parking brake before pressing the brake pedal. No warnings any way you slice it for me.
