I think you just answered the question. Really because of the big gap was my number one reason. The other is MSS is supposed to give a better ride and handling. It also lowers the center of gravity, so if you should feel better handling (maybe not daily drivers but it will be better).
Spacers really to me are just the looks, gives a more aggressive stance, add that with going lower looks even better.
