Personally, I found it alarming (and disappointing) how easily and how many chips we had on the hood of our 2019 Mineral White X5. So much so that we went out and got PPF installed. (The 2011 MDX with 110k miles we traded had fewer chips)
It has become a bit of an ordeal as the BMW Mineral White touch up paint is NOWHERE NEAR the same color white and now it's under the film.
I think it's the shape of the X5 that is prone to chips.

I had ppf'd the whole front of my M2C but still got chips on the sides. Someone even lightly rear ended me at 5 MPH and had to get my bumper resprayed.

Looks like damage to cars is unavoidable in the long run.

But the X5 chips easily, I think. My dealer even knicked one of his tools on my X5 bumper before delivery but it is not noticeable till you go looking at it closely.

All the damage done to my cars has been through other people (dealer, idiots driving carelessly and the likes).
