Typical BMW seats (hard and uncomfortable) with exception to the comfort seats.

I think it was just the M40i seats, I drove a normal X3 30i loaner and it was far more comfortable same goes for all of the loaners I've had, 5 Series, F15 X5, X1 etc. The only one I've ever found uncomfortable was my old X3. Even the M5 Comp I drove had pretty comfortable seats despite being a true M car in how it rides I miss that thing

Many X3 owners have stated that the seats, which are shared between both 30i and M40i (as well as the new G20 3er) are very comfortable. The problem is the ventilated version of that seat is very uncomfortable as there is a lack of adjustable bolstering and the lumbar is stiffer. There is no difference in seats in 30i and M40i (at least in the US) but there are two different types of seats, one without ventilation with adjustable bolsters, and one with ventilation and no adjustable bolsters
