IMHO, if you're purchasing (as opposed to leasing) it makes sense to wait a few more months to order the 2020 model year X5, assuming you don't need a new SUV right away. Down the line it'll have better resale value, when the time comes, since it's technically a full year newer.

Also, it seems like BMW occasionally sneaks in updates between model years (not necessarily during a LCI changeover). For example, the new F48 X1 came out in late 2015, and just one year later BMW released some unannounced updates (e.g., new iDrive computer) along with the previously-announced updates (e.g., adding an sDrive model). This means the first model year X1's can't get the redesigned X1 iDrive software since the computer isn't powerful enough.
