Android Auto user here. It was fussy and unpredictable when I started using it in '22 but it has gradually improved. I don't know if the most recent iDrive update is responsible, but Android Auto works well now. My only complaint is that it immediately shows Google Maps on the display even if I'm not navigating anywhere.
