Maybe you are pressing the voice command button too long. If you press it shortly it will activate idrive voice controle and longer CarPlay voice controle.
Or you can say "Hallo BMW"
When you are on CarPlay mode, CarPlay handles the calls. So you should use Siri (long press the button) to make a call and not idrive.
