Please let me know what you night have done to clear that notification. I've tried clicking on each message to read them and going into messages main screen multiple times looking for a "mark as read" option... but I still have a "6" in the white notification box

Try selecting a notification and viewing it, then pressing the OPTION button (bottom right) on the iDrive and selecting
Delete All Notifications. See if that works for you.
