It depends on what your typical use case is. The battery size is sufficient for the average daily use on EV. With a level 2 EVSE, you should easily be able to recharge fully overnight even if you need to make use of off-peak charging to save some money.

A faster charging system is likely to require more cooling, so simply swapping in a new box with a higher capacity probably isn't going to work without additional hardware changes, making it not as simple as you might think. While maybe not a big deal, without software changes, the estimate on when the charge will be finished wouldn't be correct, either.

Faster charging is critical on an EV, but desirable on a PHEV, but at what cost? The X5 45e is already heavy, and there really isn't much open space to put additional or larger hardware.
