Not sure how the warranty laws work, but they have no way of telling when you first noticed that indicator.. The car is still under warranty unless you drive it under water, then the insurance will take care of that regardless and much quicker than BMW.

We haven't heard of any battery exploding because of that... yet. If you want to be extra careful, then by all means, take the car to any dealership and join the wait and BMW doesn't care movement.
