Yes it is the normale procedure. It takes a couple of hours and they don't like that. They only do it for a reason.
But reading this forum you can find a lot of potential reasons that need upgrading.
Might I suggest:
Navigation looses destination after a stop. I had this issue.
Problems with CarPlay / phone connection
...
Question is, if you don't have problems should you upgrade. I only did this because my car was in for another reason.
