I have the 40i and the same packages on the 50i would have been ~$10k more.
The 40i is certainly quick enough to do what you need it to do. But to me, it doesn't "feel fast" compared to my old Audi S4.
The 40i certainly gets better fuel economy than the 50i, so really you need to decide if ~$10k and somewhat worse fuel economy are worth it to make the X5 "feel fast."
