Yep it finally got installed, but only after I put the car's battery on charge for a couple of hours with my smart charger.
Seems the car will not allow the S/W upgrade to proceed unless the battery is over a certain % of charge. The charger pushed the battery over 80% (I was running it at 8A), after which I took it for a short drive. As soon as I turned the car off after arriving home, the S/W upgrade started. It took around ~25 minutes.
FYI - the smart charger measured the battery charge at 59% prior to charging - so it looks like this isn't high enough for the car to initiative a S/W upgrade.
