Good news for the 50i guys, the air filter measurements are indeed the same (just confirmed) and should be compatible with no issue.
Question remains, do I get the K&N filters or do a new intake system. Have to weigh the pros and cons.

The intake filter design actually has held up quite well on the N/S63. A lot of the F10 & F90 M5 guys are throwing down big power with stock box and charcoal delete / K&N. My 2 cents is that a full intake will definitely give you better sound and spool noises if you want that, but performance improvement over upgraded filters may not be tangible.
