If i were you, i'd get stone tile.

I have stone floors in my kitchen. Don't really see a problem. Check out Amtico solid vinyl floors. They make some great tile looking tiles and plank floors. Would probably work better for you since the height of your adjacent floors are already suited for 1/8" thick floors. I have Amtico in my pool bath, laundry room and as an accent wall in my living room. I also have it in the kitchen and baths at my office.
