It is no flip flop, it is consistent with the strategy that was announced several years back. Competition is now a model designation as part of the hierarchy of ///M cars:
base -> competition -> CS -> CSL
The M2 is the oddball here, where the base was not produced alongside the competition when the later was launched, and this simply has to do with emissions compliance (the N55 was too old). |
Same for the F80. The Competition came later.
