Yup, definitely a problem here in Germany. I've seen one in my parking lot and had many mornings where I see the traces of paws across the exterior. Up until now no damages though.
When I first moved here I saw people placing nets under their cars at night, had no idea what that was about until 'Marderschaden' became part of my vocabulary a couple of years later.
