As to whether there were other factors such as possible chemical impairment, I seem to recall the Sheriff's office making a public statement that there was no drug impairment related to this crash. The Sheriff even tap danced around the excessive speed but did indicate that's probably one of if not the cause of what happened.

No matter what, there is no effin' excuse for him to have been driving at the speeds he likely did on that road. Plain stupid and as many have stated already, it's a good thing he didn't take anyone else out or have passengers in his car.
