Lot's of info on this topic here if you search. however, there are 2 camps - those that think these cars are too expensive and complex to own out of warranty and those that choose to self insure. you need to decide what works best for you. Know that insurance in general does not benefit you.
You should absolutely shop around amongst dealers. Extended warranties are DEFINITELY negotiable. shop around. you can also check 3rd party outfits like Fidelity to compare. Good luck
