I noticed the drone too, it doesn’t sound sporty to me, more like an old banger with a hole in its exhaust! So for that reason I don’t much bother to use BimmerLink to open the flap now.
What I’ve noticed recently is that in Sport+ I think the valve is open at lower RPM than 4K. In an underground garage I park in I hear a lot more exhaust sounds with the drivers window down when in Sport+ over just Sport and this is at low engine RPM and sub 15mph speeds
