I didn't "actively" have cramps, but I usually would end up with them a few hours after exercising the hamstrings, especially if I fell asleep.
I take 400mg (I think, 2 pills) a few days before big planned events, and then 3-4 times a week in general. Friday was the first game of soccer for the season, played first half in goal then 40 of the second half. Home and asleep about 1.5 hours later, no waking up screaming in the middle of the night.
When I did the Spartan run at Dodger stadium, I think we ran every freaking staircase in the damn stadium!! I had calf issues for 4 days before I could reasonably navigate a stair again. MagCit didn't help with that level of pain, but I did run at Lake Tahoe on Wednesday after the race.
