That said, notwithstanding personal preference, other factors should be taken into consideration such as driving pattern (short trips vs. frequent highway driving) as well as climate conditions (extreme cold vs. very hot).

As an engineer I can tell you it really depends on how you drive. Full synthetic oils can do over 10k miles easily but should last at least 7-8k out of the 10k under hard driving. I've yet to see any issues doing 8-10k oil changes
