I wanted the ability to get me waze directions (mostly for the notifications) to and from my commute each day, but only on week days. This automation automatically launches Waze with directions/eta to your work (at your specified hours and work days) as well directions/eta to your home (at specified hours). You don't have to do anything, as soon as your phone connects to CarPlay in your vehicle, iOS does the rest.
Make sure you have your work address saved as the work favorite in Waze. Same for your home address as well. (credit: reddit user)

4. In the shortcuts app, click the automations tab on the bottom, click the plus sign in the upper right and make a personal automation. Choose "when CarPlay connects" and on the next screen, click disable "ask before running". Then for action, choose apps - shortcuts - run shortcut and then select the CarPlay trigger shortcut.
if you don't want to use Waze you can set it any other app you like, just ensure that Home and Work addresses are appropriately set in those apps for it to work. I'm gonna try and figure out how to add holidays and other events to further customize this automation.
