I once left my tailgate open on an E70 X5 the day we moved into our previous house. It was like 11 pm and we had been moving for like 6 hours or so. Was unloading tv's and never went back to close it. Backed out to make another trip, with the tailgate still open. 🤦🏻Was like $1700 in damage if I recall, luckily none to the garage door.
I would imagine opening the garage door not realizing a tailgate was open would be way worse, garage door opening against it, maybe popping off the tracks and crashing down on the car.. I don't even know. A silly little thing turn disastrous. Or maybe it would just scratch the car and stop when it senses the resistance lol. But I'd rather not find out.
