Easiest way to verify is the status message at the bottom of the instrument cluster. If it says Hood Open, you're good.
My practice since I don't want to forget the charger is connected is to place a pool noodle on top of the radiator cover and lower the hood on that. Hood can't latch and it provides a big visual reminder.
