Is designed to act as a buffer for grid tie electricity to prevent brownouts/blackouts - like say during a storm? Or are you using it for something else?

Seth
Seth, it is not grid tied. Originally i built it because in Texas when the hurricanes hit we tend to loose power for a week or two and this was an emergency supply of power i could use. But now i actually use it to power my garage and my garage AC. I work in my garage on weekends, run AC all day and then during the week the solar recharges the pack.

This is the kind of thing that is perfect for a shed or barn as a way to get power there without running wires. Also good way to get 220v. You can configure the inverter for 220v if you need to run a welder or something needing 220v.
