I agree with Adaptive being the default - not sure why they don't allow you to choose - thank god ECO is not the default!!
WRT ASS - My last car did not have it, when I would get loaners, I hated it. When I took my X5 home, I left it on and said to myself if I still hate it after a month, then I'll turn it off. A month later, I don't hardly notice it anymore.
