The days of “hotwiring” cars or busting ignition barrels with screwdrivers are behind us with modern cars. About the only way these get stolen is via access to the the key. This can be by stealing it when you aren’t home or taking it by force when you are. Hide your keys at home. You Americans also have some options against the latter which aren’t available to us Aussies.

Electronically mimicking your key is an emerging threat. Faraday pouches can mitigate this.

Or they just tow it away.
