Sometimes. Maybe. It's one of those BMW "chameleon" colors, that changes dramatically with the lighting. In bright light, it's more of a light, almost brick red. In shadow, it looks almost black - in fact I mistook it for black when we first picked it up. In sort of average daylight, it tends toward a dark wine, with purplish highlights. You do get sort of the range with the OP's photos. Like the other "chameleons" (Arctic Grey and Carbon Black come to mind) doesn't necessarily show well what the eye actually sees in photographs, so really is best judged "in the flesh."
