Haven't driven a X5M but own a M50i and had a 40i as a loaner for 2 weeks. There is honestly not much comparison engine wise between the 40i and 50i. 50i had much more torque and pull from the 40. I honestly thought the 40i was a bit of a smoother ride than my 50i on 22" wheels though. Interior of the 50i with merino leather was far better than the 40i IMO. For a car where you want comfort only go for a 40i. Want to play? 50i. Need to have a lot of caffeine? get a x5m.
