As you can tell, rims/tires are about the same as paint, interior leather color and trim. It's really mostly about personal preference. As many have noted, there's general beliefs that the smaller rims have a quieter ride, but I think we also all hear what we want to hear some times...
I have 21", 741M rims with performance run-flats on my G06, M50i. I also have DHP and Acoustic Glass. I had it out on the interstate at 80 MPH this past weekend (first time on a 100+ mile trip since I got it in late March, due to the pandemic) and was impressed with how quiet and smooth it was...I also have a 2015, F15 w/ 19" run-flats. I'd say the G06 is quieter on the road than the F15 and either just as smooth or possibly just a bit less.
My logic with the 21's was to split the difference, hopefully get a slightly smoother ride than the 22's and I really, really liked the 741M rims, so that was a major factor in the end as well.
