1. Europe has EV only city centers and tighter emissions regulations... more battery means greater ability to operate in these zones and lower overall pollution emitted due to less ICE use.
2. Possible longevity of system. Same battery with a lower capacity profile may extend the life of the battery pack. That said, increasing the number of charge cycles to achieve the same sum total range may have the opposite effect.
3. Possible compensating for higher power draw due to options not available in the US.
