Simple. Every non-FWD based BMW now uses the new CLAR platform. The X5 and X6 were still using the 2007 architecture, and it wasn’t cost effective to build on two different chassis’s at Spartanburg. Now the X3, X4, X5, X6, and X7 will all be on the same platform and they can scale production up or down for all five models as needed since they’re all sharing.
