what is this "occasional use charger" you're referring to? if it's the charger that's included with the 45e,

1) it isn't "occasional" if it's one's only charger. in that case, it's pretty much the dedicated charger, which was the case for me until i purchased a level 2 charger and installed a 240V outlet in my garage.
2) it's a level 1 charger and doesn't double as a level 2 charger if plugged into 240V (unlike the provided charger for your Volt).
3) the UL sticker states: "120V/60Hz" at max 10A.
