Had DHP been available on the 40i, I would most likely have ordered one to replace my wife's '18 X5M. Overall however, I think the M50i is a better compromise for us right now. She never took advantage of the awesomeness of our X5M, and it was always a buzz kill when I would drive it with her in the car lol!!
Regarding the tires, I have two sets of 22" 742M (black and bi-color), and I've decided to slap on 275/315 Pirelli Winters. Despite not being ideal size-wise for winter conditions, I think the 19" and 20" winter packages are too fugly. And I always swap out my summer/winter setups myself. In fact, about to switch over to my winters on my M3CS shortly.
