This has happened since I first got my X5 last November, but I guess it wasn't so bad to highlight as an issue. I have driven other cars with perceptible downshifts while slowing down. In fact I would say that "perceptible" is a good way to characterize the X5's downshifts. Ideally it should be imperceptible, but unfortunately it is. I don't think it's horrible enough to be a major complaint for me, though.
