We got it back, and the price was actually $451 which is the same price a a tire shop would have charged, and the tire was in stock. All in all a pretty good experience.
I'm kind of sold on the RFT tires. All the other cars that were pulled over where all the crap in the road was - and there were several - likely had ruined wheels before they got to the side of the road.
Funny story: In the twenty years we've been married, I've now had to fetch my wife three times for automotive issues. Today with a cut tire, once before where I had to go change a tire in the parking lot when it had a nail in it, and once when the thermostat in her Infiniti stuck closed and the car had to come home on a flatbed. In each of those cases she was on her way to or from a hair appointment. What does that tell you? I know what it tells me...
