Based on what I saw on my dealer's lot, you won't be taking delivery of your new X5 too soon if you want perfection/flat leather. I looked at ten to fifteen 2019 X5s and they all looked similar to the pictures that show some lighter level of wrinkles. None were anywhere near some of the worst wrinked pics we've seen - but they all had'm.

My guess is that what we're seeing in person is "as designed" while some of the for-press-pictures have been photo-shopped by an overzealous marketer. I'd accept some of the lighter/basic wrinkles as being by design/normal but I'd reject some of the really poor examples I've seen.
