Not silly at all. When you use the S on the gear selection it is putting the transmission in S Sport mode. When you use the Sport DDC it changes the driving dynamics to Sport mode. Those would include, steering, damping, throttle, transmission etc. Many folks report that the transmission in Sport mode is much sportier in S Sport mode and is not very good for daily driving.
