Your phone shouldn't overheat via a 5W wireless charger.
Potential causes:
1. Very thick case => leads to lower efficiency ie more heat
2. using more power or equivalent power to what's going in so it gets hot
3. Ambient temperature is high or the device was already warm from outside or high usage
I've only had the issue when my phone was already hot but it never overheated. I've used wireless charging for 7 years now on my Android devices, most recently an S9+.
