It's an SUV and can never by sporty. If you think the X5 is sporty then you probably don't know what it means to be "sporty".

My M2 is balanced so well that I can't say it's rough/hard or comfy. They got it right! And driving wise it's playful.

With the X5 it felt heavy and unnecessarily uncomfortable with the Sport suspension. It needs to settle down a bit, IMO.

The air is what I went with and it's been great. For me, I already own a M car and my wife only cares about comfort, that was another thing that made it easier for us to get the air. In sport, it lowers and tightens up but it's still very comfortable. In sport+ it has the best feel... turns very well without compromising comfort. If they improve the sport suspension and make it even more dynamic, then I might consider it. In comfort, I want my SUV to be ultra smooth and relaxed, which I only felt in the air. And you can make the air quite sporty in sport+, it's just the right amount and looks bad ass when lowered.
